Top Tips on Getting Involved On Campus

Getting involved on campus can seem overwhelming, especially as a first-year student. As incoming college students, it can become difficult to navigate getting involved with several organizations and balancing school work.

Whether it is two organizations or four, college students are notorious for getting involved in many things; however, only a few of them can manage and maintain their involvement on campus.

Therefore, navigating making your mark in college and getting involved can seem challenging, and we are here to help you!

Getting Involved On Campus & Exploring Your Interests

We have many talents, many desires, and a dozen interests. College is the perfect time to explore those interests and learn an abundance of things before getting into our careers. That said, it is important to take advantage of college activities due to the opportunities they can teach you.

But first, your focus may be on how to get involved. In order to get involved in the college experience, you must acknowledge that you will be tired and have days of low energy. Embrace those times.

First, you must learn time management, create a weekly schedule, plan your time of involvement, study, and hang out plans beforehand. Once you recognize those things, getting involved will be a breeze.

Start Getting To Know Others

Getting involved starts with simply networking with those around you. Get to know your peers and classmates walking the campus with you and sitting in the cafe. Universities are impactful.

Everyone has their own brand; some have already started their own business in college. You never know who may need you or how you may need them. This plays a huge role in your involvement. The more people you connect with, the more involved you will be.

There is always someone looking for a friend to embark on a new talent journey with them. Some school faculty members look to see their students thrive and will ask students to engage in community and/or campus activities with them.

Therefore, get out and speak to people. That will allow you to see more, learn more, and receive more opportunities to get involved. Furthermore, attend every event that you can. From career fairs to organization fairs and summits, there are plenty of opportunities to find things to get into on your college campus.

Career fairs are great for connecting with new faces in every industry. It also prepares for your future. You never know when you will land an amazing internship or organization opportunity that could change your life and college experience.

This is why attending those job fairs and summits are important. They will open new doors for internships off and on campus.

Attending an organization is good for your resume and knowledge. Organizations will give you more to include on your resume which will grant you many more opportunities. The more organizations you join, the more you will learn.

Alums & Public Figures On Campus

Last but not least, take advantage of the moments when alumni and public figures come on campus. They always search for interns and hard workers to help them with their projects.

There have been several instances in which celebrities and alums have traveled to college campuses to find talent and have had luck finding them! This happened all because a student was involved and attended the campus activities. Involvement includes fun events as well, such as performances or university concerts.

Your college experience will be even better if you get out, learn more, have fun, and meet new people! We hope all of these tips were of help to you and allowed you to navigate better getting involved on your college campus!
