What are the best office snacks?
Lunch was three (or four, or five) hours ago, so now you’re hungry again. You grab a handful of pretzels.
Put the pretzels down and any high sodium snack down. Now.
Surprisingly, the below “healthy” go-to snacks aren’t actually the healthiest choices. Why? They all tend to provide the body with refined carbohydrates, too much sodium, and not much else to nourish and satisfy you for more than half an hour or so. They can also lead to sugar spikes in your bloodstream, which can hurt your body, particularly if you are diabetic or prediabetic.
Try your best to avoid:
- Pretzels
- Chips (including baked chips)
- Fruit all by itself
- Regular pita chips
- Smoothie
- Low-fat candy bar
Instead, here are some of the best afternoon snacks to bite into:
- Whole grain cereal mixed with two tablespoons of nuts
- Edamame
- Yogurt and fruit
- Whole-grain pita chips
- Whole-grain protein bar
