Let's face it. Doctor's appointments can be intimidating, especially when you don't know what to expect. The good news is that with a little preparation, you can control how well your appointment goes and even help your doctor get to the root of your most pressing concerns. Here's what you need to know in preparation for your upcoming doctor's appointment.
1. Be clear.
Initially, be clear as to why you are going to the doctor’s office. Are you going for a routine well-person examination? Do you have a specific problem that you want addressed?
2. Be honest.
Secondly, be prepared to be honest.
Most medical providers have seen and heard it all and rarely are we shocked.
We are not mind readers, so we need your honesty.
A small amount of embarrassment is minimal compared to the weight of continuing to carry the problem because you failed to discuss it.

3. Know your history.
Thirdly, know your history.
We want to hear about your previous surgeries, your past medical history, and the medications that you are taking.
It helps to keep your medical records in one place such as a medical journal.

4. Understand that medical providers have limitations.
Lastly, understand that we as medical providers have limitations.
We don’t know it all and be thankful if you have a provider who tells you they will look up the information and get back to you.
Please don’t be afraid to ask questions. Are there additional issues or concerns you have? It may require more than one visit to get your problem(s) addressed.
The general practitioner is fading fast and it is rare for one physician to treat us from the ‘rooter to the tooter’.
Accept the entire and complex person that you are and be open to seeing the providers that can provide you with the best care.
There are professionals available who can administer the care needed to make you the well-rounded and healthiest you that you can be.
