5 Tips & Tricks To Save Chapped Lips

chapped lipsSunscreen is a no-brainer when it comes to protecting your skin, but what about protecting your dry, chapped lips during the winter months? Here are a handful of tips and tricks that actually work for healing chapped lips and give you the perfect pout you’re looking for.

Drink Up

Dehydration is one of the leading causes of dry lips. Your lips know when to tell you that you are thirsty! Drinking plenty of water is just as important for your body as it is your pout! Be sure to drink 6 - 8 eight-ounce glasses of water daily.

Scrub-A-Dub

Just like your face, a good exfoliation of the lips is needed every now and then. The scrub will remove dry and dead skin, leaving you with soft and supple lips. Try this Cinnamon Sugar Lip Scrub.

Balm It Up

Everyone should have a go-to lip balm. Make sure you use one without a bunch of chemicals. These can actually irritate the skin more. Look for balms that are natural with ingredients such as shea, cocoa butter and olive oil.

Here are two lip balms that we've tried:

EOS Lip Balm Sphere

EOS's spheres are exceptionally good at maintaining soft, healthy-looking lips (which is probably why they previously won a Best of Beauty Award).

Instead of petrolatum or parabens, they soothe and hydrate with jojoba oil, shea butter, and vitamin E, leaving a light, silky barrier on your lips.

John Masters Organics Lip Calm

This certified-organic lip balm isn't thick or goopy—quite the opposite, actually. But with a potent blend of olive, sunflower, jojoba, and rosehip oils, the lightweight formula keeps lips hydrated for a very long time.

No Licking

We know it can be sexy, BUT stop licking your lips!

Licking your lips does nothing but offer you a temporary sense of relief, but really the saliva will dry out your lips.

As an alternative, grab your balm!

Veggies Please!

Lips often get dry because the pH levels in your body are off-balance.

Eating fruits and vegetables will help restore this and remove the toxins in your body that are making your lips chapped.

Smoothies are always a yummy option to achieve this!

Oh, and one more thing, lay off the spicy and salty foods.

They do nothing but further irritate your lips and cause inflammation.
