Clumpy mascara can not only be a disturbing feature to your look, it can also cause your eyes to be agitated. Follow these tips to refrain from not only looking like you have spider webs on your eye lids, but also prevent a potentially unhealthy situation.
Keep It Clean
A loaded mascara wand is the key to clumps. Sometimes it’s easy to just take a paper towel and wipe off any excess mascara, or you can simply replace your wand.
Too Many Coats
Many ladies apply too many coats of mascara, thinking it will give them thicker looking lashes, but there is always a limit to everything. Too much thickness is sure to lead to clumps. Try to keep it to 2-3 coats max!
Toss It
Expired makeup must go! You may not realize this, but mascara tends to have a short shelf life (typically three months). As it gets older, the ingredients start to create a more pasty substance, which is a sure clump creator. This can also lead to bacterial contamination, which is no good for your eyes.
Room Temperature
If things get too hot, your makeup will become a mess. It’s best too keep your makeup in a cool, dry, room temperature environment, and if you’re working with waterproof mascara you may even try tossing it in the fridge.
Keep It Closed
Proper storage of your mascara is essential. Keep it standing up properly or on it’s side and make sure you are closing it tight after usage. Germs and other particles can get in if you don’t keep it closed. A properly closed mascara will have a longer shelf life as well.
Separation
When all else fails, manually separate clumped together lashes. If anyone suggest you use a safety pin, STOP. This is silly and very dangerous. Try a lash grooming tool if you want to go this route.
