It seems as though R&B star Keisha Cole has been hit with tragedy after tragedy lately. Her father, Leon Cole, has just passed away due to COVID-19 complications. This tragedy comes only four months after Cole lost her birth mother Frankie Lons to a reported drug overdose. We can't imagine what she must be going through and our thoughts and prayers are with the singer during what we’re sure is an incredibly difficult season.
The Love singer took to Instagram to express her grief.
"So here we are..." starts Cole in a message to her followers on Instagram. She follows it up with two broken heart emojis.
"He’s the entire reason my last name is COLE,
The only father I knew, he did such a great job here on earth!!!!!
He made sure (Even tho he wasn’t my biological father) to keep a stable foundation and roof over all of our heads during our upbringing!!!!"
"Working for @rideact for over 30 years
My child hood was filled with 40L and 52L rides along side my father!!! I loved having a bus pass until I was 18 years old. He was a very wise man.
Taught me and my siblings that knowledge is power!! He was very dedicated to learning and sharing his strong thoughts and opinions on the Bible and religion, and
His loving passion for Yahweh Elohim🙏🏽 with also
Our many long talks of love and how a man needs to treat a woman."
Maybe the reason a man hasn’t been able to hold on to me too long, (LOL) (JK) (But serious)
He was the greatest example of love, 51 years of marriage to my mother Yvonne Cole
Seriously the most loving guy I’ve ever known. And he’s gonna be missed so much! I hate that this has happened !!!
And that I’ve now lost two beautiful souls within a few months from each other. 💔💜"
In a Facebook post from earlier in November, her adoptive mother, Dr. Cole, shared that her husband was in the intensive care unit.
“Mr. Cole is currently experiencing several health challenges due to COVID-19,” she shared. “He’s in the ICU. We ask that you send your support, love, well wishes and prayers of comfort and healing to Mr. Cole and his loved ones at this time.”
The “Heaven Sent” singer confirmed the news as well when a fan sent her condolences via Twitter.
Cole was adopted by the couple when she was two years old, due to her mother, Francine “Frankie” Lons, battling drug addiction.
Lons and Keyshia Cole’s biological father Virgil Hunter gave Cole up for adoption when she was young. She was raised by close family friends and ultimately reunited with her biological parents after finding success as an artist.
Frankie died on July 18, 2021. Her cause of death was multiple drug intoxication after an accidental overdose according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Office, TMZ reported. Lons overdosed at her Oakland home and was found by her brother, Sam, who told TMZ that he had been checking on Lons daily to ensure that she stayed sober. She was 61-years-old.
Losing a parent isn't easy for anybody and to lose both your parents in just months of each other is heartbreaking. Our hearts, thoughts, prayers and good energy are being sent Keisha's way.
