One the first things I always do when I hit the spa is search for their refreshments. They always have a great selection of snacks and of course spa water! There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to enjoy this refreshing drink at home! In fact, drinking spa water regularly will assist you in battling your urge to drink sugary juice and soda. Try any of these recipes to curb your bad cravings and keep you hydrated!
Watermelon-Cucumber-Lime Water
Talk about a spa water staple! A cucumber and watermelon combo offers a light, fresh taste, and the lime gives it a sour twist. Not to mention, the antioxidants will make your skin glow! Other great benefits are that watermelon helps with muscle recovery and relaxation, while cucumber offers plenty of anti-inflammatory nutrients. To make this yummy drink:
-
- Fill a pitcher with 2 liters of water.
- Peel and cut 1 cup of watermelon into cubes (do not remove seeds).
- Add seeded watermelon to the pitcher of water.
- Thinly slice 1 large cucumber.
- Thinly slice one lime.
- Let the mixture sit overnight.
- Strain out watermelon chunks, but leave the other fruit.
- Serve water with a slice of lime.
Grapefruit-Basil Water
Basil and grapefruit pair wonderfully, giving you a dose of mild citrus flavor. Basil is a great purifier, as it detoxes your blood, giving you clear and healthy skin, and grapefruit has a multitude of antioxidants that give you a fresh glow. To make grapefruit-basil spa water:
-
Take a spatula or the back of a large wooden spoon and bruise four sprigs of fresh basil.
-
Place the basil in a pitcher.
-
Add one gallon of water and let the mixture sit for 2 hours.
-
Cut 1 grapefruit into thick slices.
-
Add the grapefruit slices and some ice to the pitcher and chill for another two hours before serving.
Sweet Pepper Water
Filled with water soluable vitamin C, sweet peppers offer a surprising, yet refreshing taste to your water. The peppers provide tons of antioxidants that help ward off free radicals in the body. To make this water:
-
Wash and slice and de-seed about 2 cups of sweet peppers (try to get red, green and yellow for the color).
-
Place the peppers at the bottom of a pitcher and add one gallon of water and ice.
-
Chill for four hours before serving.
