If you are in need of an accurate definition of #BlackGirlMagic, look no further than the gravity-defying and spellbinding performances of Simone Biles, 18, and Gabrielle "Gabby" Douglas, 19! The two teen gymnasts represented the U.S. with history-making wins at the World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
Biles, who hasn't lost a meet in 2 1/2 years, broke the record for women's World Gymnastics Championships gold medals and became the first woman to win three consecutive titles at the world championships.
"I just keep blowing my own mind," Biles said in interview. "There are goals that I have and then I dream of it and then I make it a reality.
"If I could crawl out of my skin and see it, it would be really amazing."After her wins on Sunday, Biles has 10 career Worlds gold medals, a U.S. record. From NBC Sports:
That broke the all-nations women’s golds record of nine previously shared by the Soviet Union’s Larisa Latynina, Romania’s Gina Gogean and Russia’s Svetlana Khorkina.
The overall record is held by Belarus’ Vitaly Scherbo, who captured 23 medals and 12 golds.
Biles, 18, is now set up to be predicted to win four gold medals at the Rio Olympics, which no gymnast has done since Scherbo took six at Barcelona 1992.
Friend and sister in sport Gabby Douglas became the first reigning Olympic champ to win a world medal since way 1981. Douglas walked away with the silver.
I'm excited to keep watching these ladies on their "road to Rio Olympics"!
