4 Yummy Desserts You Can Enjoy Without The Worry

desserts

A 3-course meal includes three things: the appetizer, the entree and the dessert, along with the liquor (or non-alcoholic beverage) of your choice. With a meal that comes in stages like this, you get to enjoy a light starter, a hearty entree, and top it off with a sweet and decadent dessert. Sounds like a great way to enjoy different foods and all the flavors they have to offer right? Well, while enjoying the delicious aromas, spices and treats and experiencing them with the sense of taste, your body will end up paying for it on top of your wallet, especially when you add dessert. The need for something sweet after a good meal may sound good to your taste buds, but it can be bad for your health depending on the type of dessert you are reaching for after a meal. Luckily, there are ways to enjoy a fulfilling meal and a healthy and light dessert without having to pay for it later with your health.

How Certain Sweets Affect Your Health

As tasty as they are, many treats come with a lot of risks if you’re eating them too often. This is due to the amount of sodium, sugar and calories that can be found in these sweet treats.

The sugars found in these desserts do more than just please your taste buds, they can also make you dependent on them. Sugar has calming properties and the ability to be a mood booster if you are experiencing stress or anxiety.

Consuming a sugary sweet too often or using it to make you feel better can lead to many health problems especially if these snacks have high levels of sugar in them.

A high sugar intake on a regular basis can lead to prediabetes which, if not diagnosed and corrected, can lead to type 2 diabetes. This occurs when your body can no longer break down sugar and create insulin, which leads to high levels of sugar in your bloodstream.

Though prediabetes can be prevented and cured, type 2 diabetes cannot be cured. Therefore, if your sugar intake is too high, it can lead to this disease. Sweets with high sugar levels can also affect your heart health and lead to disease and failure due to too much sugar flowing into your bloodstream.

The Key To Keeping It Healthy And Delicious

Too much sugar can be bad for you over time, but there is a way to indulge in sweet and tasty treats without having to worry. So, how is this possible you might ask? Well, it’s actually easy to do. All you have to do is be mindful of the sugar and sodium levels that are in these treats you may want to eat. Ask questions if you’re buying your treats from bakeries or look at the nutrition facts if you’re buying your treats from the store.

Another way to keep it healthy and delicious is by making your own desserts and substituting or using alternatives. Instead of using butter, use a healthier oil such as canola oil. Instead of using whole milk, use fat-free, almond, soy or oat milk and use a sugar alternative if you can.
