3 Life-Changing Benefits Of Meditation

man meditating at workMeditation is a practice used by many to train the mind or body to reach a particular state of consciousness in order to realize some benefit or as an end to itself. By focusing the mind and the energy within the body, meditation can help aid in relaxation and to add to the body’s internal energy (life force).

Meditation has become increasingly popular within the Western hemisphere as new age philosophies about spirituality have crept into mainstream media, but many within the African-American community are discovering the wonderful benefits of taking a few minutes to quiet the mind and focus their breathing.

If you have been curious about how meditation can benefit you, take a look at just a few ways this state of consciousness can enhance your life!

1. Relieves Stress

Meditation puts the body in a state of relaxation and ease as you clear your mind of all thoughts and worry.  When your mind is completely clear, stress is released giving you an overall feeling of peace and tranquility. Using meditation music, focusing on your breathing or envisioning yourself in a place that makes you feel at peace are just a few ways to get into the meditative state. Whether in the state for 5 minutes or 5 hours, making the time to commit to meditation can keep your stress levels low and your happiness high.

There are seven swirling centers of energy that run along the spine of the body called chakras. Each chakra is an energy source responsible for a different set of functions within the body. Sometimes through emotional buildup or disturbances within our bodies such as infections, an overgrowth of toxic chemicals or injury, these energy centers can become blocked causing many different problems within the body. Through guided meditation, you can learn how to balance the body’s energy centers and keep the energy flowing properly to promote great health from the spiritual level out to the physical body.

3. Heightens Level of Spirituality

Raising your state of consciousness through meditation puts you in a state of awareness closer to the grand energy source that we refer to as God. In higher states of consciousness, you can receive messages from the creator, become more aware of the energy that flows through every living thing around you and truly be in communion with God. Even if you aren’t a religious individual, meditation will help you to become more in tune with your spiritual self, heightening your sense of spirituality and life purpose.

If meditation is new for you and you would like to know how to properly get into a state of meditation, search “guided meditation practices” on Google or Youtube to begin.
