Kelis: Her Life On A Plate
Singer Kelis is making much more than milkshakes nowadays. The ex-wife of rapper Nas, mother and voice behind the hit “Milkshake” that brought “all the boys to the yard” is now a chef and author of a cookbook. No, seriously!
“My Life On A Plate is my first cookbook, and like the title says, it really is a reflection of my life through food,” said Kelis in a statement. “It includes my version of recipes I grew up eating and things I’ve picked up that have inspired me along the way. It’s an exploration of tastes and cultures, and my experience as a chef, musician, mother and wife. It’s a lifestyle, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.”
“I’ve been cooking all of my life,” explains Kelis. “I think as we get older we start to focus on what brings us joy. Cooking has always been at the top of my list.”
At one point Kelis merged her two loves, food and music on her last studio album “Food,” which was released on April of 2014 and features titles like “Jerk Ribs,” “Breakfast,” “Biscuits n’ Gravy,” and others. Kelis describes the album as “a kind of unspoken lovefest,” and we can see why.
