5 UTI-Fighting Smoothies

Getting a UTI (urinary tract infection) is beyond annoying. The best cure is prevention. Give your body a fighting chance with these five smoothies that may both prevent and treat UTIs.

Blue-Razz Smoothie

This concoction combines the power of blueberries and raspberries, which two fruits experts say prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs).

1 cup fresh raspberries
1 cup wild blueberries
¾ cup rice milk
¾ cup crushed ice
1 tbsp flaxseed, freshly ground

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until smooth. Garnish as desired. Serve immediately.

Cranberry-Cherry Smoothie

Well known for its UTI blocking properties, cranberries when combined with cherries, create a double whammy helping to promote both urinary tract and bladder health.

Ingredients:

12 cherries, stoned
1 cup cranberry juice
5 ice cubes

Directions:

Blend ingredients and drink immediately.

Prevention Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 cup filtered water
1 cup cranberries
1 banana
½ cup ice

Directions:

Blend ingredients, slowly increasing speed until smooth. Serve immediately.

This concoction helps fight off bacteria and boost the immune system.

Ingredients:

1 ¾ cup (400 ml) cranberries
2 cups (500 ml) pineapple
1 cup (250 ml) blueberries
1 banana
½ cup water

Directions:

Blend all ingredients and serve immediately.

The Green Smoothie

UTI

This healing combination is believed to prevent UTIs, thanks to its powerful antioxidants including vitamins A, B6, K, C, folate and potassium, not to mention bacteria-fighting agents like cranberries’ Proanthocyanidins (which prevent E. coli, the cause of about 85% of UTIs).

Ingredients:

2 cups spinach
2 bananas
1 cup water
1 cup orange juice
1 cup strawberries
1 cup cranberries
1 cup tomatoes

Directions:

Blend ingredients until smooth and serve over ice.
