Did You Take Your Vitamins Today?

So maybe it’s just me, but whenever we talk about health and fitness, there are hour-long conversations and knee-deep articles about the right portion sizes, carbs, natural versus GMO, and almost everything under the sun. New fitness trends pop up quicker than waffles in the toaster, there’s another wrap, there’s a new fitness pill, and you know there’s always some hot new personal trainer on everyone’s Instagram page who’s so “inspiring”.

There even an oddly-growing trend of body modification and surgery (which we need to discuss more because this is getting out of hand). With all this talk of health going around, I feel as though people forget about something so simple, yet very helpful to our health. Let’s talk about vitamins, shall we?

For those unfamiliar with the concept, vitamins are organic compounds and essential nutrients needed for the body. It helps the body develop and grow normally. While some get vitamins from the foods they eat, most people don’t get enough vitamins due to dietary restrictions or just from poor eating habits. This is where the availability of vitamin tablets and supplements come into play. They’re available everywhere and can help with a lot of common health issues.

I’ll admit, for a while I didn’t take vitamins. I would just eat a lot of fruit, drink water from time to time, or just drink some tea thinking that will solve all my problems. I’ll also admit I was terribly wrong. One day last year, I had a minor stomach problem that turned into a major digestive problem. This problem was going on for a week and I was at a point where I was considering checking into the hospital. I started feeling better once I drank some green tea and strictly ate fruits and vegetables for two weeks, but after that little health scare, I started to take a look at my health habits and started to take them a little more seriously.

Apart from me taking my health more seriously, I started taking vitamins. I started doing research on vitamins as well; I learned that there are vitamins for all ages, gender, and specific aspects of your health. I also learned that it’s never too early to start taking vitamins.

There are health benefits of taking vitamins at certain ages. For children, it’s always good to start them on vitamins early and set an example for their health. Let’s be honest kids don’tcare about calories or having a balanced meal, so parents making sure they’re getting the right nutrition is important. Now for the young men and women (these include teens too, they make vitamins for teens as well), vitamins are simply for maintaining and upkeep of the body.

We move constantly and use our bodies the most, with that in mind, we need all the vitamins we can get. For senior citizens and pregnant women, vitamins are essential. As senior citizens, the body is changing and your health is more critical around this age. For pregnant women, the body is changing as well, but you are also carrying another life, so prenatal vitamins are your best bet for maintaining your health and the health of the baby. In some cases, vitamins can prevent your child from receiving numerous medical issues.

What brands should you get?

Personally, the vitamin brands I suggest are:

Olly
Rainbow Light
Smarty Pants
One a Day
Vitafusion
Alive!

You can find these brands at any pharmacy or grocery store. If these brands are a little out of your price range, don’t worry. I believe that you can’t go wrong with vitamins, any brand at any price range will give you the nutritional balance you need to stay in shape and maintain your health. You should also remember that now, most stores have deals on vitamins (since it’s the new year), which means you can get the best deals on the most popular vitamins. Remember a vitamin a day keeps the doctor away.
