Singer, model, and host Amara La Negra is known for her activism and proudly embracing her Afro-Latina heritage and her larger-than-life afro.
She's an Afro-Latina of Dominican descent, and is probably best known for her role on the VH1 reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: Miami.
She's always been a curvaceous beauty that many people fell in love with.

But recently, as much as people loved her signature look, the star slimmed down this year, dropping at least 35 pounds and looking noticeably smaller and leaner.
It's something that she's happy about, but a number of select fans and followers are not happy with it.

“I’ve lost about 35 pounds in a couple of months,” she said in April during a visit to Telemundo’s Latinx Now! show. “I’ve been really stressed out. There was a lot of stuff going on in my life. I love it! And to be honest, I embrace my stretch marks, my cellulite, my dimples my everything because I can still get it. So what’s the problem? What?”

“I had a fan base that followed me because I was very curvy and I represented the Latinas and the Black beautiful women that were curvy and I get that part, but some part of that was a little bit unhealthy for me, personally,” she added. “I’m not saying I won’t be able to get back into that, but this time around I kind of want to do it in the gym. To each its own. If you want to unfollow me because I’m not as thick, it’s ok my love because I’ll get a new fan base.”

“Goodmorning! Just Realized How Many People are unfollowing me because I've lost weight! Wow,” she wrote in another post caption. She continued on addressing her former followers “Y’all is Trash lol ok ok. Y’all Will be back! For those that still love me! I’m even more loyal to y’all for staying in my world.”
“Before They said I was too FAT and I needed to lose weight! Now they say I’m too skinny and they like me better when I was Thick,” she said on Instagram a month earlier in March.
“the point is you can’t ever make people happy is [sic] the most important thing is to make yourself happy!”
Many fans left kind words in the “Love and Hip Hop: Miami” star’s comments to show her that they support her.
“Love and Hip Hop” star Tammy Rivera responded, “That’s disgusting! How dare they! You are beautiful thick or slim thick!”
“We love you no matter what,” said one assuring fan.
To Spanish-language TV viewers, Amara has been a star for years.
As a child, she made regular appearances on Univision’s Sábado Gigante. And now, with hits like the reggae-tinged “What a Bam Bam” soaring into the millions of views on YouTube, La Negra is relishing her biggest spotlight yet.
“I’ve always known my purpose in life,” says the 27-year-old singer. Raised in Miami by Dominican parents, she has a knack for dramatic pronouncements.
“I knew at an early age that I wasn’t afraid of a crowd,” she continues. “I was born to be an entertainer.”
