With summer here, kids and adults alike are looking for healthy food substitutes that can be incorporated into our diets. One popular food that has health blogs buzzing is Apple Cider Vinegar, with claims of lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels, fighting cancer and much more. How do we determine fact from fiction?
While Apple Cider Vinegar may not be the cure-all superfood that many health blogs might have us believe, there are some benefits that seem to be supported through research and science. Below we will detail some known benefits associated with Apple Cider Vinegar, as well as give a recipe for making healthy Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies for a fun summertime treat.
ACV and Weight Loss
Apple Cider Vinegar has been attributed to improved weight loss in select research, although a small study. The study showed that adults who drank 2 tablespoons of ACV daily for 3 months lost an average of 4 pounds. While this is a larger loss than those who took the placebo, stronger research is needed before we can retire our gym memberships in favor of ACV.
ACV and Cancer
Apple Cider Vinegar contains substantial amounts of polyphenols, plant-based antioxidants that possess cancer-preventing properties. While research is very limited, in vitro and rat studies suggest that vinegar may prevent the growth of cancer cells, there has been no correlating human research.
ACV and Blood Sugar
Several short term studies have been conducted on the effect of Apple Cider Vinegar on blood sugar levels, however, a lack of long term data showing its efficacy still has many on the fence. Short term studies indicated that ACV can reduce blood sugar levels when taken with meals and that it should be safe to incorporate into a diabetes treatment plan with a doctor's approval.
ACV Gummies
While the verdict is still out on many of the proposed benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar on the internet, it is undoubtedly a much healthier option than other high calorie and fat foods. To make your ACV Gummies you will need 100% organic fruit juice (apple or other to reduce the bitterness).
