Legendary rapper and producer Dr. Dre is serving up body inspiration in his latest picture.
Dre captioned a shirtless photo of himself in the gym on Instagram saying, "this is my COVID body. I’m about to start getting my s*** together. Going in with @willsmith. Let’s Go," referencing actor Will Smith's current #bigwilliechallenge.
Dre's pic was obviously taken in a gym and shows his chiseled pecs and six-pack abs. I'm not going to lie, it's pretty impressive for the 56-year-old Dre.
The challenge all started at the beginning of May when Smith posted a photo proudly showing himself in a pair of briefs and nothing else, embracing the fact that his body has shifted throughout a year+ of lockdown restrictions. “This is the body that carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing thru the pantry," he captioned the post.
Smith's shirtless picture was different than Dre's in that Will didn't have a six-pack at all and was actually showing off a round, beer belly.
"I love this body, but I wanna FEEL better. No more midnight muffins…this is it! Imma get in the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!!!!! Teaming up with @YouTube to get my health & wellness back on track. Hope it works.”
Who Else is In on the Challenge?
The project is already a hit with fans and fellow male celebs inundating Smith with snaps of themselves as they go through a similar struggle. Smith decided to share the photos on his account and offer up a challenge: "Hahahahaha - Let’s go get it! After pics due in 12 weeks," he said while asking fans to use the #bigwilliechallenge hashtag.
Even though Smith’s series announcement seems to be what started the fire, several other rappers and actors who’ve recently touted the powers of strength training may have been the kindling. Wu-Tang Clan member Clifford Smith Jr., aka Method Man, is on tape deadlifting a 215.5-kilogram (475-pound) personal record. Rapper Action Bronson has lost over a hundred pounds training strongman. Actor Ethan Suplee has lost over half of his previous 550 pounds of body weight. Actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani got jacked for a Marvel movie. Even actor Mark Wahlberg trains at 2 a.m. each morning, albeit he is now in a bulking phase for a new movie role.
Longtime Dr. Dre collaborator Snoop Dogg, was in Dr. Dre’s comments to say he’ll get a head start on his fitness:
"I’ll be in the gym before u get there doc," Snoop commented.
Rapper Xzibit joined the fitness crew stating, “I’m in.” Christopher Edward Martin, aka DJ Premier, chimed in, “Let’s all get it together!” Actor Terry Crews, who knows a thing or two about getting in shape, posted up a bunch of fire emojis. WWE Superstar Sesugh Uhaa, known in-ring as Apollo Crews — whose physique is a marvel of rounded shoulders and huge pecs — also tossed some flexing emojis in the comment to show support. Even former Mr. Olympia Dexter “The Blade” Jackson showered praise, “Looking amazing big homie!”
Dr. Dre's Workout
For those who think Dre just got into this shape, think again. Long gone are the days of the heavy-drinking, pudgy Dr. Dre. He's been working out for a while now.
Dre's normal workouts involve lifting 5 days a week and would focus on lifting two parts of the body for every workout. By just exercising a couple of totally different body parts Dre was able to consistently work out his physique with opposable groups of muscles.
For Dr. Dre’s workout, he’d complete 3-4 sets of 10-12 reps for each exercise. Generally, he’d increase weight however it is not necessary to get good results. Do 60-80% of your 1 rep max for every exercise.
Dre would also perform a great deal of running. He ran 3-5 miles each day on the treadmill machine. He goes by the rule of always performing cardio exercises after you lift. This will help you get a slim look and have lower body fat.
