Lovemaking 101: 9 Foods to Eat Before Making Love

Want to have a better time with your mate in the bedroom? Need to increase your sex drive? Well, it all boils down to what you put in your body will determine what you get out of it. Try introducing any of these 9 foods into your regular diet to turn your bedroom into a “boom-boom” room of better, longer-lasting lovemaking!

9. Blackberries

Bedroom boredom no more! Blackberries and their seeds will help get your mind in the mood for a fun and magical night. This fruit is enriched with a phytochemical that increases sexual endurance.

Blackberries are also rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, zinc and a heap of other beneficial nutrients. Flavonoid-rich foods have been associated with lower ED rates. Between that and the other nutritional benefits, it makes sense to pack your fruit plate, breakfast and any other snacking opportunities with as many of these little guys as possible.

8. Broccoli

You may be thinking smelly broccoli for sex? Nah! Keri Glassman, registered dietitian and author of The New You Diet says, “Vitamin C aids in blood circulation to organs and has been associated with an improved female libido.” Broccoli has a high vitamin c content offering. Eat it raw or cook it lightly. The more you cook it the less nutritional value it offers. Steamed or sautéed is best.

7. Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds, like oysters, arepacked with zinc. They’re also a great source of magnesium. They contain antioxidative, antihypertensive, and cardioprotective nutrients, all essential for optimal sexual health.

The omega-3 fatty acids in pumpkin seeds may help with gynecological and prostate health. Omega-3s are known to reduce inflammation in the body.

Pumpkin seeds are rich in:

  • iron, necessary for feeling energized
  • zinc, associated with boosting immunity
  • magnesium, essential for relaxation

To get started, simply sprinkle a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds in your strawberry yogurt parfait. Or top your zucchini noodles with a healthy pumpkin seed pesto. You can even make green pipian, a popular Mexican pumpkin seed sauce.

6. Figs

He won’t be able to get his hands off of you after a feasting on a few of these. Figs are an excellent stimulant for increased pheromone secretion. For an added benefit they make you more fertile too!

5. Bananas

Bananas are rich in potassium, which is well-known for its role in various bodily functions. This includes heart, nerve and muscle contraction — all of which are necessary for a penis to get hard, stay hard and reach orgasm.

Maintaining healthy blood pressure levels is important for overall cardiovascular health and potentially sexual stamina, as potassium deficiency has been linked to vascular disease and high blood pressure.

4. Beets

Beets are one of those foods that are an “acquired” taste (meaning they may taste nasty to some folks)! A substantial amount of research has suggested that beets (and the nitrates they can lower blood pressure and should be part of a healthy diet for people with hypertension.
There’s no study about their sexual benefits specifically, but since nitrates convert to the nitric oxide needed for blood vessel dilation, you can draw a cautious line between a beet and your meat.

3. Avocados

While we can’t draw a direct line between avocado toast and better sex, there’s more to it than the influencers may believe. Avocados contain healthy fats and vitamin E, both of which can promote cardiovascular health and improve blood flow.
Avocado consumption has been generally associated with better metabolic function, meaning people who eat them are often less likely to be obese.

2. Honey

Honey’s well-known aphrodisiac properties are limited on the science. However, its natural sugars for energy may contribute to a general sense of well-being, and some studies have linked honey to a protective role in cardiovascular and reproductive health.

So yes, reach for honey instead of sugar when you can, but don’t go full bear on the local hive — the stings will be the only thing that instantly swells.

1. Watermelon

Get the juices flowing with watermelon. According to a study from the University of Guelph in Canada, a slice of watermelon is a sweet libido-booster. This may seem to be impossible since about 92% of this fruit is simply just water, but the other 8% is full of nutrients that help with sexual health. Researchers from Texas A&M describe watermelon as having “viagra-like effects to the human body’s blood vessels and increases libido.”
