Recently, Jaden Smith attended the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver where he discussed his journey with psychedelic drugs, a discussion that is sparking attention amongst many Gen-Zers and those struggling with their mental health.
Previously, Smith explained that after taking antidepressants like Prozac, he looked into alternative options to help manage his mental health. At the Psychedelic Science conference, he explained in more detail the changes he has noticed, specifically regarding his relationship with his siblings.
"Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past," he said. "But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the (psychedelic) experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that's profound and beautiful,” he explained to the crowd, according to People.
According to Smith, he recalled that his mom brought him into the world of psychedelic drugs.
"I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family. It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved, and everybody found it in their own ways."
His mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, has been very vocal in the past about how she turned to psychedelics in order to deal with the mental health issues she was experiencing. In her talk show, "Red Table Talk", she has taken the time to explain in more detail the reasoning behind why she turned to this option rather than traditional methods when it came to managing her mental health.
“I struggled with depression for so long. And the thing about the plant medicine is it helps you feel better but also solves the problems of how you got there in the first place," she stated.
However in her upcoming memoir, "Worthy", she plans to talk more in detail about her journey and what it has meant to her.
Psychedelic drugs have become more popular over the past few years, with many people taking a similar route to Smith choosing these options over prescribed antidepressants. The Psychedelic Conference in Denver had star athletes like Aaron Rodgers in attendance along with musician Melissa Ethridge to talk about their personal experiences.
According to NRP, psychedelics have gained mainstream acceptance as certain states are taking the next steps of legalizing the drugs. Oregon and Colorado have been at the forefront, similar to their journey, but still lack adequate research.
“Many medical professionals say more research is needed to better understand the risks of these substances as well as the appropriate dosages and number of sessions. Certain groups are excluded from some clinical trials including kids, pregnant people and those with a history of psychosis because the risks of using psychedelics in these populations are not fully understood.”
While it is true that many individuals have chosen to openly discuss their experiences with psychedelics and highlight both the positive and negative outcomes, it is important to remember that sharing personal stories is not the same as scientific evidence. It is crucial to approach this new medicine with information that relies on reputable research and studies conducted by experts in the field.
When seeking out psychedelic substances for personal use, it is highly recommended to consult with a knowledgeable expert who can provide comprehensive information about the various options available to you. These experts can offer guidance and insights based on their expertise, helping you navigate the world of psychedelic drugs.
