Kim Fields: Going From Miscarriage To Miracle

Actress Kim Fields is known for her roles as "Tootie" on the NBC sitcom The Facts of Life, and as Regine on the Fox sitcom Living Single. It seems as though the beautiful 52-year-old has been acting since she was born, but even though she comes from a Hollywood family, she had a life outside of acting.

“I was never pushed into the industry. I was a very shy child. I was not one to perform for friends and family at every get-together. When my mom [actress Chip Fields] started going to acting classes out here in New York, we couldn’t afford a baby sitter. And so she took me to the acting classes just because, well, what else was she going to do with me? And there were other kids there whose parents couldn’t afford sitters either. We would keep ourselves entertained by imitating what we saw them doing, and that kind of birthed acting classes for the younger kids. In that crop was Danielle Spencer, who played Dee on ‘What’s Happening.’ Her father was a ridiculously tremendous actor named Tim Pelt who we lost some time ago in a horrible car crash.”

In 2014, Kim announced that she and husband Christopher Morgan are expecting their second son.  The couple, who married in July 2007, are already parents to a six-year-old son, Sebastian. But they had been trying for the past two years to conceive and nothing was happening. Like the thousands of couples who are affected by infertility, the couple was almost about to give up.

"This is Quincy Xavier," Kim said, holding her baby bump. "He's a boy, yes. We're very, very blessed. It was planned. We actually had been trying for a couple of years."

Now 48, Kim also revealed that she'd previously had two miscarriages. Because of this, learning she was finally pregnant again came as a big surprise.

"Funny enough, for a minute I thought I was getting pre-menopausal because certain things were starting to be irregular and then other symptoms started...my memory, and I was clumsier than normal, which I couldn't even believe was possible," Kim explained. "Then our son got sick with a stomach virus and I caught it. Chris said, 'No, babe, you're a little sicker than Sebastian. You need to go and get that checked out' and I said, 'Okay.' So I went and they tested me and said, 'Oh Honey, you're not dehydrated. You're two months pregnant.' [Quincy's] is our little miracle."

What Causes Miscarriages?
Miscarriages can be caused by a variety of different factors, including infection, hormonal problems and/or uterine abnormalities, as well as severe malnutrition and uncontrolled diabetes. If you are pregnant or...

... think you might be, talk to your doctor immediately about the best ways to ensure the health of both you and your baby.

But that wasn't the end of Kim's story.

Kim and her husband welcomed their new baby boy, Quincy Xavier Morgan, at 10:30 a.m. on December 3, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia. He weighed in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 20-inches long. The couple are already parents to big brother Sebastian Alexander, 6 1/2.

“First of all, we’re a praying family. You just can’t run willy-nilly in this industry. For me, before I was even a mom or a wife or anything, I was a praying person. I was always very clear that my faith sustained me and helped me keep a modicum of sanity. I couldn’t even fathom being in life – let alone this life in the entertainment industry – without God. The entertainment industry has its own perils and ups and downs, like any industry. But in just life itself, I couldn’t and wouldn’t want to be without God. And I’ve tried to be in this life without God – no thanks.”
