Rapper Remy Ma has been known to rap a few memorable verses, win a few awards and while the Love & Hip Hop star has always celebrated her curves, she recently shed a noticeable amount of weight.
Earlier this year, she posted an “off-guard” pic of her newly snatched body in a belly-baring midriff top and skinny jeans that had fans questioning how she managed to lose all the weight. The beauty revealed that she simply changed her diet.
The 38-year-old rapper was indeed sporting a slimmer physique and revealed that she was doing a cleanse that ultimately led to her giving up meat. “Well, first I did a juicing thing and cleansed everything, and then I stopped eating meat,” she said. But don’t call her a vegetarian just yet. Although she’s consuming mostly fruits and veggies right now, she still gets her protein elsewhere.
“I only do like seafood here and there. Mostly just fruits and vegetables and water, water, water. It’s a lot, but when you go outside and then everyone says, ‘Oh my God, Remy looks so good.’ I’m like, 'You know what? I really don’t need that soda. It’s OK. I didn’t want it anyway.'”
If you remember Remy Ma went through a very public miscarriage in early 2017. She was experiencing an ectopic pregnancy — the egg had attached itself to her fallopian tube — and Remy was bleeding and in pain. She underwent emergency surgery, had her tubes removed — and then pulled out her phone in the hospital bed and shared her story on Instagram.
Since then, she's been on a mission for better health in her body and for other women too.
By simply swapping out meat for fruits and veggies, and adding in consistent exercise, Remy said she’s never felt better. “I drink a lot of water and try to get at least 30 minutes of cardio a day. I won't say 'diet.' I had to get that word out of my vocabulary,” she said, adding that her old eating habits often led to overindulging. “When you eat too much rice or something, you just feel horrible after — like, 'Oh God, now I might as well just eat everything!’”
And she's right. When you build your meals from a generous array of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans—that is, healthy vegetarian choices—weight loss is remarkably easy. And along with it comes major improvements in cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, and many other aspects of health. The message of this mainly vegetarian or pescatarian diet is simple:...
... Cut out the foods that are high in fat and devoid of fiber, and increase the foods that are low in fat and full of fiber.
The best way to do this approach is to follow the diet completely for three weeks. This means no sneaking ranch dressing onto your salad, adding egg whites to muffin batter, or having a bit of chicken with dinner. Only by doing the diet all the way will you be able to reap all the benefits and avoid lapses that can lead to weight gain.
These days, it’s all about portion control for the hip-hop wordsmith. “It's a life change, and now if I have a bit too much macaroni and cheese, then I don't feel bad,” Remy explained. “It's just like, 'Hey, it's just mac and cheese.’ It's not like I ate a cheeseburger like I really wanted to do!”
