We all know it's hard enough to become a doctor, but when you mix in family obstacles holding you back, deaths in the family, and other issues, it gets even harder. But Dr. Talitha Tweedy is an physician, the President & CEO of international company, FuseMeIn, a motivational speaker and a promotional model. And she was able to do all of this with trial after trial coming at her in life.
"I have overcome many unforeseen obstacles in life starting before my birth because my mother was pregnant with me when my father was killed in a car accident and the stress she endured challenged my existence," explains Dr. Tweedy to Melanin In Me. "I'm a survivor of molestation, rape and kidnapping."
"I graduated from Savannah State University in 2007 with a degree in biology and I began medical school at St. Matthews University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands in 2008 committed to becoming a physician, but shortly there after one family tragedy after another began to slightly affect my academic progression. At one point, feeling an emotional weight that almost became a serious burden, I had to remember that tenacity that brought me through so many of life challenges. But equally important, my mothers' command to me, 'never allow anything to get in your way,' helped me to refocus and continue to do the work that I am capable of. Due to my universities status as a private institution I was ineligible to receive any federal loans and therefore, while studying medicine I enrolled in a US graduate program and began to concurrently pursue my Masters degree. General George S. Paton once said: 'If you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing, you have to make the mind run the body and never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night.' I am deeply inspired and encouraged by this quote. As it enabled me to stand strong even in the midst of adversity and continue to compete among my peers for a competitive standing in our major."
"As I rounded the final stretch of the track, the hastening footsteps started to close in on me. The sky seemed to be as a burning ball of fire and beneath my feet the pave was like unforgiving hot coals. Sweat and tears poured down my skin with each footstep so that I ran in a hot mist of my own creation. My soles seemed to absorb the heat that rose from my arches and ankles and the stem of my shins. I was in a fete of pain, battling fatigue and contemplating two routes; either give into the pain and give up my chance of winning to gain momentary comfort and relief, or push myself even harder in order to receive greater rewards later. I chose the second route and now I hold the degrees that represent my fight, hard work, persistence, gumption and determination. The years of participating, lettering, and setting school records in several competitive sports after being hit by a car as a child taught me discipline, teamwork, perseverance and the importance to prevail. My name is Dr. Talitha TiaLaDon Tweedy B.S., M.B.A, M.D."
"Years ago my mother once told me that, 'The will to win means nothing without the will to sacrifice, endure all the trials and tribulations while staying focused and prepared.' I am a true survivor and...
... I give All the Glory to GOD! I have overcome many unforeseen obstacles in life starting before my birth because my mother was pregnant with my when my father was killed in a car accident and the stress she endured challenged my existence."
"I personally never met a doctor outside of my family physician until I started medical school and I am so grateful that God saw me through! I ask for your prayers as I continue to move forward in my career & establish my business as I look forward to continuing to give back and help inspire others for the rest of my days!"
Dr. Tweety also has some sound advice for those also want to accomplish their dreams. "Take a Look at where you are right now then reflect back on all God has brought you through!! With that knowledge move confidently forward knowing that any & everything you go through is simply God preparing you for everything you asked for!! Will you be ready to catch it when He throws it?
Are you ready? Is your vision clear? Will you go through the jungle to have it All??"
Thank you, Dr. Tweedy, for being such an awesome inspiration to so many. We look forward to seeing you reach even higher and greater!
