When it comes to weight loss transformation, there are a number of transformations on social media that look good, but there are a few that literally blow you away. Like, how did they lose all that weight without surgery? Well, Brisco is a beauty whose weight loss is not only stunning, she also shares exactly how she lost the weight.
Brisco, or @BadBrisco1 as she's known on social media, is a registered nurse and Keto coach. She began her weight loss journey in July 2017 at 299.8 lbs. She was depressed and ashamed of the weight she gained after my mother's death in 2016.
After losing some weight doing the average eating less and exercise, but like many of us, she felt like she was missing out on life and her favorite meals, soon to go back to her old health habits. That is, until she found something better.
"Don't give up on what you want MOST, for what you want NOW! Stop cheating yourself, hold yourself accountable for every decision, and keep the ultimate goal in mind! Remember this when you're struggling with that craving, or making excuses about getting that workout in!! What do I want most? Ask yourself, am I strong enough, and committed enough to do what it takes to get there?"
"Transformation is not 5 minutes from now, it's apresent activity. In this moment, you can make a different choice, and these small choices build up over time to help cultivate a healthy self- image and self-esteem. It's not just about the weight you lose, but the life you gain!"
So how did she go about this amazing transformation? Here's what she says:
"I began dieting in July of 2017! I started on a low fat, low-calorie diet. That's pretty much all I knew how to do, and I had lost weight doing so before. I made significant progress, by exercising as well, and was pretty happy. I was also feeling really deprived. This diet required I cut all of my favorite foods. 😣😣 I was so afraid that I would revert back to my old eating habits."
"Then came Keto," admits Brisco. "I began the ketogenic way of living in October of 2017, and haven't looked back! I was able to add most all my favs back into my diet, and continue to lose weight!!! No supplements, no gimmicks, just a solid ketogenic diet and exercise. It hasn't been easy, and many times I've wanted to give up... but this has been the most amazing journey, and the best decision I've ever made for myself and my health! TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!"
The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low-carb diets.
It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain.
Ketogenic diets can cause massive reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels. This, along with the increased ketones, has numerous health benefits.
"Let's talk about eating," adds Brisco. "We, especially as southerners, plan everything around food!! Every celebration, whether it's a wedding, birthday, graduation, or a funeral...We eat! And don't even mention vacations! We literally plan to break or diets and overeat. Myself included. Why?"
"Breaking the habit of viewing food as a reward is so hard, but I think it's something worth striving for! We have to learn to focus on the experience! Vacation is about experiencing a new place with wonderful people. A birthday is about celebrating another blessed year on this earth!! A wedding is about celebrating the love two people who plan to spend life together!! If we learn to shift our focus to what the celebration is actually about, and enjoying the time with people we love, it becomes easier to maintain your eating habits and avoid overindulging!"
As far as what advice does she have for those who want to get started? She's straight to the point:
"How many of us keep putting our weight loss off? Whether it's 'next Monday' or 'my 30th bday' or 'the Beyonce concert' 😂 trust me, I get that one a lot. Nothing is wrong with having goal dates to encourage you through your journey, but we have a bad habit of using them as excuses, and telling ourselves we have more time. You know how it goes....'Oh, I still have 3 months, I can start next month and still lose.' Stop putting off what needs to happen today! Besides, if you stay ready, you'll never have to get ready!"
