This Organization Travels To Promote Women’s Empowerment And We’re Here For It!

In a world where people, especially women, are constantly compared to one another to determine who’s the better option, it’s a beautiful moment when women can come together to genuinely support and uplift each other, especially in today’s climate, as women everywhere are still fighting to have the same equal rights as men- in 2018.

Although social media can be a major factor with increasing social anxiety and can feed the need to constantly compare each other, social networking sites can also be a powerful tool to spark unity amongst individuals across the world.

Such as the case for women’s empowerment organization, Sisters in Power, whose social media presence quickly gained popularity and aims to unite women across the country and come together in an effort to promote women supporting women, instead of competing with one another.

With their next event occurring on October 27th in Dallas, Sisters in Power has developed a strong offline presence as well, traveling to multiple cities throughout the year to host events that empower and inspire women to reach their full potential and live meaningful lives.

Prior to becoming such a vastly growing organization, founder Tiana Jones experienceda bad breakup almost two years ago when she gathered a group of friends, some wine and food in her home as a way to not only help herself get through the difficult time but to help others going through similar situations as well. However, she had no idea the impact that particular get-together would have.

“I went through a really bad breakup and was going through a whole bunch of different things and I thought ‘man I know there are other women who are probably dealing with some of the things that I’m going through,’ so I had a meet up at my house and maybe about fifteen women come over,” Jones said. “We did vision boards and then we put questions in a basket and went around the room and one person would pull a question from the basket not knowing who asked the question and all of us would get an opportunity to answer to help them out with whatever they were going through…and it was really empowering.”

After the initial turnout, Jones hosted another get-together and had even more women show up, which then inspired her to think on a bigger scale and create the lifestyle brand, Sisters in Power. Since its first event in Houston about a year and a half ago, Jones and her team have gone on to host events in multiple cities across the country, featuring celebrity panel guests such as Tami Roman, Toya Wright, and Shaunie O’Neal.

Attendees can expect to see local talent from vendors and performers to fashion designers and models, as well as, R&B singer Avant who will not only be a featured guest on the panel but is scheduled to perform at the event as well. Additionally, Project Runway season 15 contestant, Latasha Henderson-Robinson, will have her designs featured on the runway and the Sisters in Power team are also in the process of working on having 12-year-old Flexin In My Complexion founder, Kheris Rogers, join the event.

Although the upcoming event is expected to be different from the others, one thing that will for sureremain the same is the Sisters in Power movement to bring women together from all walks of life to support and empower each other.

Tickets start at $10 for general admission and can be purchased online anther website, sisinpower.com.

For those interested in participating in the fashion show, there will be a model casting call from 10AM - 12PM Saturday, September 29th at the Sheraton Dallas, 400 N. Olive St. Dallas, TX 75201.
