Feeling a burnout coming on is normal. It is something that happens when you have an event, important test, important meeting, or have been going 100% for too long. Now if you are like me, I like to function high-level majority of the time. With that level of function, I have now been able to identify the signs of becoming burnt out and here are some of the tools I have used to stop it from coming.
1. Adequate Sleep.
The first step is to get an adequate amount of sleep. In a world that screams, “Team No Sleep” I cringe. Sleep is critical to the body and to allow you to function at a high level. Sleep plays a critical part in a healthy immune system, heart, health, and weight. There are multiple studies showing that with the adequate sleep it allows for better memory retention and for athletes a better performance.
2. Develop processes and procedures.
I work as an international marketing strategist for brands and businesses with AverageBlackGirl.com and a lot of times, the best way I help companies is by helping to develop processes and procedures.
By developing a process, you know how long it will take you to do a task and what the result will be when following the process. The best part of developing a process is that you are able to outsource once you perfect it. Another benefit is that it allows you to do your work without wasting time. If you are on social media, you know to schedule your posts and how much time to give yourself to respond to people and dm people. This helps you to not waste time on social media or to get on the platform and not know what to do.
3. Outsource and Scale Up.
At the end of the day, you are only one person and I encourage everyone to stop trying to DIY in your business, brand or life forever. If you are in the process of feeling overwhelmed, it is probably time to outsource help or scale your business. There is no wrong way to scale, if you are not ready for help in your business then outsource a cleaning company to help with domestic things.
Maybe you need to go to task bullet and get you a virtual assistant, or maybe it is time to hire that independent contractor. Only you know best, but if you find yourself against the wall, it is time for additional help.
4. Celebrate You and All The Wins.
Make sure to take the time to celebrate you and celebrate the wins! A lot of time, we get so into the day to day activity that we forget to take the time to celebrate when we do something extraordinary. I find this trick of celebrating myself helps me to keep my mental health and self-esteem high. Even if I am the one to acknowledge me and my milestones, it is something that celebrate the wins, that allows you to keep going and feel a sense of joy.
5. Exercise.
Being active has been one of the oldest tricks in the book to relieve stress, however, it is sometimes not at the top of the mind. With youtube, there are so many free resources for you to find the perfect workout routine just for you. Start with running up and down the stairs, grabbing a yoga mat and doing pop fitness exercises or taking the time to stretch. All of it is positive, gets the blood flowing and allows you to let out some of that stress from your burnout.
