At 6’6″ and a solid 255 pounds, actor, director, producer and multimedia mogul Tyler Perry became a household name by playing the rambunctious-but-loveable grandmother, Madea. The character Madea is slightly overweight, eats a variety of fried foods, and doesn’t workout much. But in real life, Tyler is just the opposite. His recent pictures on instagram (above) shows it.
Tyler lost 30 pounds for one of his Hollywood roles and has been able to keep it off. Not only that, he’s been able to add muscle. With the assistance of a trainer, his hour-long morning circuits include cardio and various types of strength moves. He also practices Krav Maga, an Israeli martial art he initially learned for one of his movie’s fight scenes.
“I’m 18 lbs away from my goal. I hope I don’t blow it this holiday season. Gonna try to stay on it. It’s hard as heck to lose weight after 40, but it’s so worth it. It keeps the doctor away. Don’t let anything keep you from being healthy and strong. I wish my mother had fought back. She turned diabetic at 40 and died at 64. Don’t let that be you!! Fight back!!”
Tyler’s Diet
Some of Tyler’s favorite foods include pork chops, jambalaya, and dirty rice. But instead, he chooses healthier options, such as scrambled egg whites, ground turkey chili, grilled chicken breasts, and green shakes for increased protein.
Perry first felt compelled to lose weight when he was cast as the titular homicide detective in the upcoming movie Alex Cross, based on the best-selling James Patterson novels.
The Georgia resident stated “I’ve worked my entire life to get to this place. The first 28 years of my life, it was hell and misery. Now I can do whatever I want. I don’t want any drama; I don’t want to argue. I want to be healthy.”
