So what chips and dips should you try? Well, for starters if you are having a Super Bowl party, have each one of your guests bring chips and dip so everyone can enjoy a variety of snacks and have your phone so you can share the yumminess on social media using #SuperBowl.
While we strive to eat healthily, this is Super Bowl Sunday so it’s OK to indulge a little bit.
Let’s dip into this!
Guacamole
What's better than guacamole for Super Bowl Sunday? There are many ways to make guacamole. It can be as simple as avocado slices, and lime, with the options of adding tomatoes, cilantro, or even parmesan cheese. The great thing about avocados is that they are very nutritious. They are high in fiber and potassium.
Avocados help lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol, regulate blood and sugar levels, promote healthy bones, strengthen the immune system, aid in weight loss, and are anti-inflammatory.
Ingredients
- 3 Avocados
- 1 Tomato, diced (optional)
- Freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice
- Pepper, seasoning salt, and Old Bay seasoning
- Salt (optional)
Instructions
Peel and de-seed avocados and place them in a serving bowl. Mash until smooth. Add seasonings (to taste), diced tomatoes, and freshly squeezed lemon juice and stir. Be festive and add cilantro, cayenne pepper, or parmesan. Chill or serve right away with your favorite tortilla chips.
Crab Dip
This is my guilty indulgence. Growing up my grandmother always made this crab dip and when I want to enjoy a not-so-healthy snack, this is it. By the way, I believe in the 80/20 rule. 80% eating healthy and 20% indulging.
Ingredients
- 1 can of crab meat
- 1 can of shrimp
- Tub of sour cream
- Tablespoon of seasoning salt (add more to taste)
Instructions
Add the entire tub of sour cream into a serving bowl. Add crab meat, shrimp, seasoning salt, and stir well. Chill for 15 minutes. Served best with Lay’s Potato Chips. Also good with Reduced Guilt Multigrain Pita Chips.
Spicy Black Bean Dip
There is nothing like having a little spice to your dip. Like avocados, black beans are packed with nutritious benefits. They are high in fiber and protein, boost energy, improve digestion, aid in weight loss, and improve heart health. With benefits like this who wouldn’t want to enjoy a spicy black bean dip on Super Bowl Sunday?
Ingredients
- 1 can of refried black beans
- ¼ cup of salsa
- ½ fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon of paprika
Instructions
In a small pot, heat the refried beans for about five minutes, stirring occasionally. Add beans to a serving bowl with lime juice, cayenne pepper, salsa, and paprika. Stir well and refrigerate for 15 minutes or until cool. Best served with black bean quinoa chips.
