Actor Morris Chestnut has been eye candy for many women for years in such films as “The Best Man”, “The Brothers” and “Boyz N The Hood”.
But as women have swooned over him for decades, and no matter how he gets cozy with co-stars playing his on-screen wife, Chestnut makes it clear that his real-life wife of nearly 30 years this year, is the one for him.
How Morris Really Feels About His Wife
With my wife, I’m always letting her know what the deal is. ‘It’s you. Ain’t nobody else. It’s you.’
The pair tied the knot in 1995. He says the number one thing that keeps them strong is mutual respect; that is, first and foremost.
“I would like to think of myself as pretty perceptive because when I am in different types of situations, I am always watching and listening more than I am talking.”
The two met at a club: “We met in a club. I was doing something in Atlanta and at the time, it was Deion Sanders, Ron Grant and a dude named Tiny Lister (Deebo from Friday),“ explains Chestnut. “I was doing a tv movie out there and I went to the club. Tiny was living in Atlanta. He knew the ins and outs of the city, and he was just like, Mr. Atlanta. We were hanging out in the club and he told me about this chick, that chick, whatever. Then I saw Pam, who is my wife, and I said, ‘What’s up with her?’ He said, ‘Nah, man, don’t waste your time. She don’t give anybody no play.’ So as soon as he said that, I was like, ‘That’s the woman I need to go holler at.'”
Being together for nearly three decades, Morris stated that he’s never cheated on his wife, “I know I have a good woman.”
Morris’ Appreciation for Black, Curvy, Plus-Sized Women
Despite many of his on-screen co-stars being thin and petite, we remember when Morris took to his fan site in 2017 and expressed his love for plus-size women and how the rest of the world is just starting to catch up. He sounded like someone who knew the future. Here’s what he has to say:
“Voluptuous, BBW, full figured, thick, plus size, phat, are several terms society uses to define the body type of a curvy woman. In, previous years, such terms were used to soften the blow, when referring to girl as “overweight”. Today, society has changed the old-school expectations of thin-slim beauty. Due to beautiful women throughout notable industries, remaining confident and gorgeous in their skin, people are starting to notice that the “curvy girl”, is demanding her recognition as, the ‘It Girl’.”
“From skin care ads, to music videos, it seems that ‘thick’ is now in! The face of acceptable beauty is quickly transitioning from slim and trim, to big and boss. But society alone can’t take credit for such a drastic perception of what’s now considered sexy. The new epitome of sexy could be blamed on several bold and beautiful women who have branded their images by embracing they’re ‘curvy girl’ physiques.”
“The late and forever missed, Joanna (Jordan) Borgella, was one of today’s most recognized faces of the curvy girl movement, before recently losing her fight with cancer. The former American Idol contestant, was not only noticed for her soulful voice. But she was also loved for those vivacious bold curves, which she wore very well as a model, singer and later, television personality. After her American Idol exposure, she moved on to become a NuvoTV’s ‘Curvy Girl’, making the movement official…”
“In terms of fashion, there is much to be said regarding societies renewed, body expectations. Women can recall a time when any girl over a size ‘12, was forced to resort to Lane Bryant and other ‘plus size’ stores. It was frustrating to rock a unique style or keep up with current fashion trends. Now, it isn’t lame to be seen in plus-size stores, but the selection was limited and typically didn’t fit the diverse styles of many full figured women. The curvy girl movement has inspired top name designers to incorporate size to wrap and hug those curves for those who ladies who want to showoff or dress up, their full-figures.”
“Obviously, society has done a 180 degree turn in interpreting sexiness and beauty. So much of a turn that the cosmetic surgery industry is as lucrative as ever in comparison to previous years. Our nation is one of the most body image addicted countries on the map. We spend billions a year for surgeons to tuck it in, suck it out, and lift them up. But nowadays we are doing a lot less, nipping and tucking, and great deal of thickening and puffing. There seems to be a craze for round full hips, and a thick lifted ass. Butt augmentations is apparently the thing these days, from female rap artist, to movie screen scarlets, everyone desires those curves which should only come from “yo mama”. But who needs mama’s hand-me-downs, when a Beverly Hills surgeon can customize it for you? lol. Well, many have handed in mama’s hand-me-downs, in exchange of Dr.’s ‘hook-it-up’.”
“Not, to get off course here, but just goes to show, how admired the curvy woman is for all that her body possess. Plastic surgeons are no longer making money converting full to thin. It is definitely the other way around. Full figured women, of different sizes, colors, and age, stand proud in their skin and own bodies. It’s a world where you are more likely to see a model who resembles you, instead of a model which confuses you. Curvy Girl, is a much appreciated and long over due, movement.”
How Chestnut Feels About His Own Body
Even though Morris doesn’t have your typical “dad-body” with love handles and a beer belly currently, at one time, he actually did.
Back in 2014 when Chestnut hit the media circuit to promote his acting projects, Morris had transformed into an incredibly chiseled man. But, the truth is that not long before shooting that film, Morris was in the worst shape of his life—35 pounds heavier than he should have been, over 220 pounds, a flabby belly, avoiding the gym, and frequenting the drive-through for fast food.
Knowing he would be on screen again and with more skin showing this time, he turned to celebrity trainer Obi Obadike to help him turn things around in time for the movie–and the results speak for themselves. Morris went from 220 pounds to a lean and ripped 187 pounds in just 12 weeks, and audiences haven’t stopped raving about his new look—or asking how he achieved it.
In fact, Morris and Obi teamed up to share this life-changing and accessible program with fans nationwide. Morris is literally calling out all those who want a better body and want to lose weight, to use him to do it.
